PREPARATION OF MANUSCRIPTS
The Journal’s guidelines are in accordance with the
Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to
Biomedical Journals (the complete document
appears in N Engl J Med, 1997; 336: 305-315). The
Editorial Board reserves the right to copyedit and
proofread all articles accepted for publication
The manuscript should include the following:

SUMMARY
Summary should not exceed 250 words. It should
consist of four paragraphs entitled Introduction, Ma-
terials and Methods, Results, Conclusion. Each
section should start on a new and briefly describe
the purpose of the study, how the investigation was
performed, the
most important results, and the principal conclusion
that the authors draw from the results.
KEY WORDS (3-6) or short phrases inserted at the
bottom of the page under the summary. Employ-
ment of terms listed in Index Medicus (Medical Sub-
ject Headings) is advided.

The manuscript text should comprise the following:
Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Dis-
cussion, Conclusions, References (and eventual
Acknowledgements).
Introduction
should state the purpose of the article
and summarize the rationale for the study.
Materials and Methods
reasons for using them,
and evaluation of their limitations should clearly de-
scribe the methods used in the investigation. The
methods, apparatus (the manufacturer's name and
address should be included), and procedures
should be given in sufficient detail to allow other
workers to reproduce the results. References to es-
tablished methods and brief descriptions for meth-
ods should be given. Whereas new or substantially
modified methods should be presented in full detail,
